Praia dos Caneiros
Praia dos Carneiros
Nestled between cliffs, like all the beaches of Lagoa County, the Praia dos Caneiros forms a natural complex with the beach of Vale da Azinhaga, only separated by a small promontory. You can find impressive high cliffs of ocher and rosy shades and, next to the beach, the small caves and recesses dug by the sea on the fragile rock.
From the beach, you can see Ponta do Altar and the old lighthouse, now dwarfed by the tower of the VTS (maritime traffic control system) that dominates the landscape.
Above the beach, the crests of the cliffs are colonized by a diversity of plants, characteristic of these dry habitats of the Mediterranean landscape - Thyme, Fennel, Sea Pampillo, Limonium, Barrilha, Salgadeira and Aroeira, among others.
